The Rundown: A mystery man pays a visit to a dying Lovecraft to deliver some interesting news.

H.P. Lovecraft lies dying in a local hospital alone until a mysterious man named Randolph Carter pays him a visit. After being let into the room, Carter begins speaking to the man as he prepares something that will bring him out of his malaise and back into the world.

As Lovecraft finds himself able to speak again, Carter reveals some haunting information to the writer. Information about a world that Lovecraft thought only lived in his imagination.

The Story: Giulivo crafts an interesting and atmospheric story in this first issue. As an avid reader of Lovecraft’s work I found myself intrigued by the premise of this story, but unfortunately that’s all that intrigued me. There are some interesting references and teases, but the execution is meandering and gives me no indication as to what this story is about or why I should want to engage with it beyond this first issue. It’s a shame because I was hoping for more.

The Art: Rebelka delivers some great art in the first issue. I loved the first few images of the issue and how they brought me into the world of Lovecraft’s twisted imagination.
