The Rundown: Batman investigates a derelict ship with a potentially deadly cargo.

Batman confronts his mission in Gotham and whether or not he has been able to keep its people safe as a ship filled with partygoers discovers not only bodies in the harbor, but are also hit by a passing freighter.
Batman comes to the scene to rescue a woman that fell overboard and links with Oracle to investigate the ship itself. After finding everyone dead on deck, he discovers a young boy below who is sick. After dropping the boy off, he takes one of the victims to Mr. Terrific for examination where he discovers that there is a potentially deadly virus at play in Gotham.
The Story: Taylor crafts an engaging and entertaining story in this issue. I love the dark, moody tone of the story as well as the matter of fact characterization of Batman within it. One of the reasons I love Detective as a series is because it allows Batman to be the detective that he is and this new investigation has gotten my attention both for what it means for Gotham, but also for the stakes it has raised for the character.
The Art: Janin’s visual style and tone are perfect for this story and the character. The pages are brilliantly detailed and drawn in a way that both matches and enhances the tone and mood of the story.
