The Rundown: A small island town fights over how to protect itself from an incoming invasion.

Creatures that are attracted to sound are tearing their way through cities across the world and the safety officer of the small island town of Pearl is meeting with the residents to tell them his plan for keeping the town safe when the creatures arrive. A plan that will involve blowing up all the entrances into the town. Unfortunately, the Mayor of the town is dead set against the plan and her personal relationship to the officer is a huge factor in her thinking.

After his plan is rejected, Lonnie decides to move his family into a potentially soundproof location while he takes matters into his own hands. A year later, the town is overrun by the creatures and the survivors are forced to come up with ways to protect each other while resources dwindle.

The Story: Hester crafts an engaging and interesting story in this first issue. There is a wonderful buildup of tension throughout especially with the interpersonal conflicts with Lonnie and the rest of the people of the town. There is some great drama in the story as well and I really enjoyed the time jump and what it means for the characters and their stories going forward.

The Art: Kelly delivers some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I really enjoyed the look of this issue.
