The Rundown: Zatanna begins a new mission to protect the realms of magic.

Zatanna Zatara has decided to take on a new role and a new mission as the Prime Magus. In her new role, she will protect the realms of magic from anything and anyone that tries to harm the innocent and exploit magic itself. Her first mission brings her face to face with a plague demon that has killed multiple DEO agents and has taken possession of a young elven girl.

Zatanna returns with the creature back to its realm and battles its attempts to stay in possession of the girl and her talents while the DEO looks on and decides what they are going to do with the new Prime Magus. At the same time, darker forces move in the background with their sights set on Zatanna.

The Story: Campbell crafts a fun, thrilling and entertaining story in this first issue. I am a huge fan of the character Zatanna and Campbell does a great job of giving the character a singular purpose that connects to her passion for magic. I like the bigger story being teased in this first issue and how Zatanna will have to navigate this new position and the potential threats it brings. The first issue got my attention and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Campbell creates beautifully detailed and visually exciting moments throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the issue as well as the character designs.
