The Rundown: An accident transports Kermit into a film noir nightmare.

It’s backstage at the Muppet Theater and Kermit is dealing with a host of issues with the upcoming show. Issues that will prompt his friends to tell him to take a break backstage while they work them out. After taking Scooter’s advice, Kermit decides to read an old pulp novel before he gets hit in the head and knocked out.

While his friends tend to him, Kermit wakes up in a new world where he is a private detective hired to find the daughter of a wealthy pie magnate. A case that will send him into the seedy and silly parts of the city looking for the elusive heiress.

The Story: Langridge is crafting an interesting story in this first issue. I like the premise a lot. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t connect with me. With the exception of the pie bit, none of the humor made me laugh or smile throughout this story. I was really hoping for the humor that makes the Muppets and their world work for an audience and this didn’t land with me. The first issue of any series is usually my litmus test on whether I’ll continue and this first issue is a fine attempt at capturing the world of the Muppets, but didn’t create a circumstance where I would want to revisit it in this story.

The Art: The art is great. There are some fun expressions for the characters and I love the visual style of it. I just wish the story was worthy of the visuals.
