The Rundown: The cadets beam down to a planet for a series of lessons and discover something unexpected.

The Cadets of Starfleet Academy have teamed with members of the War College for an away team mission on an abandoned planet. The mission will test them on environmental conditions as well as a series of simulated issues they will have to face as a team in order to prevail and there is a special commendation available to the cadet who excels.
As the team lands on the planet, they find themselves in their first simulation. A simulated acid rain storm tests their ability to adapt, but Mir discovers that the planet is not as uninhabited as they believe. When a real storm threatens the area, the cadets find themselves cut off from the Athena and not alone on the surface.
The Story: Morgan creates an entertaining story in this first issue. As a fan of the series, I enjoy seeing other adventures of this group outside of the ones shown and this one has all of the elements that I enjoy about the series and its characters. There are some great themes in the first issue and I really enjoy not only the tension between the characters, but also the focus on Genesis through her letter. I look forward to seeing where this story goes next and what mystery it has to unveil.
The Art: Espuna delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I like the visual style of the issue a lot as well as the character designs.
