The Rundown: Peter finds himself facing off against Morlun as Mary Jane confronts some hard truths.

After Kaine is defeated, he is recreated by Morlun who knows the limitations and purpose of his clone. With the new Kaine recovering, Morlun decides to go looking for his prey personally and finds Spider-Man fighting a small group of bumbling villains in the street before showing the wall crawler how powerful he really is. A fight that results in Spider-Man being captured by Morlun, but the villain is not the only one on the hunt.
At the same time, Mary Jane pays a visit to her Aunt Anna to patch things up after a tense dinner the night before and leaves with more doubt as Anna once again goes in on Peter as a person. Returning to Aunt May’s the two women have a conversation about Peter where May reveals a shocking secret.
The Story: DeMatteis crafts a fun, funny and thrilling story in this issue. I’ve never been a huge fan of Morlun as an antagonist because he always seemed too overpowered, but this issue gives him some interesting depth of character that I appreciated. I like seeing the story evolve into more than just Peter’s journey by adding some compelling and interesting things for Mary Jane to experience and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
The Art: Towe creates some beautifully detailed art that both pays homage to the style of the animated series the issue is based on, but also elevates it visually in great ways.
