The Rundown: Kutter’s journey as a cop is revealed as she makes a huge decision about her place in Powers Division.

Kutter is not new to the Powers Division. Her father was a detective in the division working alongside Pilgrim and Walker and he imparts some wisdom to her that motivates her to become a cop. After dealing with a personal encounter with a power, she joins the force and gets another lesson in her place in the world from someone with the power to take it over.

As she continues her career, she deals with an incident that shakes her in ways she couldn’t imagine. In the present, she decides that the best way to solve the murder she’s been involved in is to join with Gates and his operation to uncover the truth.

The Story: Bendis crafts an intense and engaging story in this issue as it dives into Kutter’s past and uncovers the moments that helped to define her as the cop she becomes. There are some great moments of strength and resilience throughout the story as she discovers not only who she is, but also the limits of what she can do. There is great dramatic tension throughout the story especially towards the end as she meets with Gates and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next.

The Art: Michael Avon Oeming delivers stunning visuals throughout the issue. From scenes of personal triumph to emotional moments of fear and determination, the art in this issue beautifully captures the tone and mood of the story.
