Blumhouse is tackling one of Stephen King’s earliest and well known works with an adaptation of his 1980 novel Firestarter. It also looks like they have found their male lead for the film.
Accoridng to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Zac Efron has signed on for the Firestarter adaptation. Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) will be writing the adaptation based on King’s novel about a shadowy government agency who is on the hunt for a little girl with pyrokinetic abilities.
It is unclear who Efron will be playing in the film, but my guess would be that he takes on the role of Andy McGee, the father of Charlene “Charlie” McGee. Andy breaks he and his daughter out of captivity and goes on the run to protect her from the agency trying to steal and utilize her abilities. Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct with Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman producing.
