The Rundown: On a hidden island, young Hellboy finds a long lost hero.
After escaping from an assassin and the beasts of a forgotten island, Hellboy finds himself in the company of one of his heroes, Scarlett the Sky Devil. After being marooned on the island, Scarlett made friends with the local creatures and promises to take Hellboy to see the Professor as long as they stay away from the forbidden temple. When they get attacked by a dinosaur, Hellboy discovers Scarlett has a secret.
After reuniting, Hellboy and the Professor discover what happened to Scarlett all those years ago and the adults decide that going to the temple might be the best chance of getting off the island. Unfortunately, the evil the locals warned about has awoken and is looking for victims.
The Story: There is a great spirit to this issue and the series itself that I found both fun and engaging. The plot is entertaining and the world of these characters has a charm that kept me tuned into the characters, especially Hellboy. Seeing the character in the midst of his hero worship was endearing and the rest of the story has me clamoring to see what happens next.
The Art: Rosseau delivers some beautiful visuals throughout the issue and the style of the art is perfect for the tone of the story.
