The Rundown: Klaus is out and is about to get into some adventures on the coast.
Klaus has been kicked out of the house, but he refuses to go quietly. Frankly, he refuses to go at all. A fact that his siblings will not let him forget. Once he finally realizes that he’s worn out his welcome, Klaus takes to the streets in search of the one thing that will help him forget.
After finally deciding where he wants to go, Klaus takes off to the coast where he will meet up with some assorted and sordid characters that might make his trip more of an adventure than he was hoping for.
The Story: Having Klaus as the protagonist of a story usually means something unexpected and entertaining is going to happen and that is true in this story as well. Way and Simon craft a story that is funny, whimsical and filled with interesting characters. There is a lot to enjoy about Klaus’ journey in this first issue. There are some pacing issues with the story and it takes a while to get to the meat of the plot, but the journey is fun for the most part. An entertaining beginning that gets the reader interested in what could be coming next.
The Art: Culbard delivers some impressive visuals in this issue. The art has everything you come to expect from the Umbrella Academy series and the lighter tone to the art is reflective of the subject matter and the focus of the story, Klaus.
