The Rundown: A dark chapter in the life of Apocalypse is revealed as well as his plans for Krakoa.
Apocalypse goes to see his grandson Summoner in order to learn the truth of how he came to be in this world. He learns of the events that transpired after his war. The world of Amenth is a wasteland, but the forces Apocalypse sent there are able to survive, conquer and thrive. Unfortunately, a larger threat still remains. One that continues to spread and eventually threatens the thriving populace.
When Genesis rides with her forces to stop it, they are defeated and the remaining mutants find themselves on the brink of annihilation. With no other option, Summoner is sent to bring back Apocalypse as their last hope. With this knowledge in hand, Apocalypse begins plans that will pit the nation of Krakoa against a threat none of them have ever faced before.
The Story: Jonathan Hickman delivers a dense and richly detailed story for Apocalypse and continues what looks like a fascinating new story for the mutants of Krakoa. The story is deeply engaging and captured my imagination as I read it. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next.
The Art: Leinil Francis Yu’s visuals are enthralling. Everything from the layout of the panels to the details in the characters and action are thrilling. I found myself going back over panels to pick out more interesting and beautiful details throughout. An awesome looking issue.
