The Rundown: Cyclops leads the team on a rescue mission while Beast connects with the locals.
In the wake of losing their mutant paradise, the X-Men have relocated to an abandoned Sentinel factory in Alaska and Beast finds himself giving the local sheriff a tour of their new home as well as showing her what they’ve been working on.
At the same time, Cyclops leads the X-Men on a rescue mission to bring back Wolverine as well as some new mutants that have been detected. As their mission takes them into a hidden Orchis facility, they will discover that their enemy has evolved into something dangerous.
The Story: MacKay crafts a great adventure that culminates in everything I was hoping for in the post-Krakoa era for these characters. There is great action and adventure throughout the story and I love the character interactions and tone of the story. The tension between the characters is great especially Magneto. I love the darker, defiant tone to the story and how the threats to the characters have evolved along with their philosophy towards dealing with humanity. I have a feeling I’m going to like the direction this story is going.
The Art: Stegman delivers some visually impressive art throughout the issue. The visuals beautifully capture the tone of the story while elevating the action.
