Kid Cable has a new mission and the former members of X-Force have some questions for him.
The country of Transia has a problem. Even though it’s president is touting the county as a safe haven for mutants seeking asylum, the head of his military and the secret police are conducting raids in the middle of the night and murdering any mutants they find.
In Queens, the former members of X-Force design to get back in black to take down a mutant hate group that has been meeting with Kid Cable. Domino, Warpath, Shatterstar and Cannonball get some of the answers they need and make their way to Transia only to find out that Kid Cable has sent Deathlok in as a spy and now has to rescue the psychopathic cyborg.
Their actions have bigger consequences when Cable reveals to the team why he’s there, what he’s after and why it’s important. More complications arise when a political assassination puts a spotlight on the team that they were trying to avoid.
Then Boom Boom wakes up late, misses all the action and invariably causes more damage trying to track her team down.
This is an interesting and tense first issue. There is a new dynamic for these characters being created by Ed Brisson and it is actually entertaining and fun to see how they interact with a younger Cable in their midst. I like that there is mystery to Cable’s plan and how it connects to the larger X-Men story that is being teased in the aftermath of Extermination. The first issue definitely got my attention and made me interested in seeing where this story goes.
The art is great. I really enjoy Dylan Burnett’s style both in the character moments and the action scenes. It’s the same thing I appreciated about his art in Cosmic Ghost Rider. It’s going to be fun to see how he brings that aesthetic to these characters going forward.
