The Rundown: The fallout from the battle on Otherworld continues as the mutants must prepare for a battle against a new and deadly foe.
The expeditionary team from Krakoa returns and the injured are taken to the Healing Gardens. To make matters worse, the rest of the team returns and Polaris has something in her brain that she cannot reconcile and none of the psychics can decipher.
When Rictor succumbs to his injuries, Charles has the Five resurrect him and Rockslide quickly. In the aftermath, they discover something strange about the resurrection process. Something tied to dying in Otherworld. Something that could change the resurrection process for all mutants forever.
As the mystery continues, Polaris will discover why she was chosen to hold onto a message of prophecy and when she reveals it, the champions will start to gather.
The Story: Just when we were getting comfortable with the new status quo for mutants, this story comes along to shake things up. Leah Williams does a great job of moving this story forward in a way that both entertains and engages the reader, especially continuing readers of this series. I am impressed with the richness of this story, the evolution of its characters and its stakes. I love how this story played out from a character and plot level and how the uncertainty of what comes next fuels my desire to read more.
The Art: Carlos Gomez delivers some stunning art in this issue. The details in the characters are amazing. The action is thrilling and the art perfectly captures the mood of the story.
