The Rundown: The government decides to fund a new mutant superhero team with the assistance of a social media guru.
A social media and marketing guru decides that the thing the public needs in the wake of Krakoa is a government sponsored mutant strike team and he convinces Angel to help fund it and lead it. At the same time, he continues to work on the team as well as some secret projects.
Alex Summers decides that he might want to join and it brings him into conflict with Lorna as he is offered a role on a mutant mercenary team. A team that will become the target of X-Factor’s disastrous first mission.
The Story: An intriguing story from Russell in this first issue. I really like the dark, cynical tone of the story and how the characters try to navigate that. There are some brilliantly complicated factions at play throughout the plot and Russell creates some interesting dynamics with the characters that I enjoyed as a reader. There’s some great action in the story as well and I am interested in seeing what happens for these characters.
The Art: Quinn delivers some beautiful art in the issue. I loved the visual style and how it crafts the characters and the action.
