The Rundown: Wynd is captured and learns more about the dangerous world he finds himself in.
Wynd and his allies are on the run after the vampire’s destroyed their ships and ran them aground. With one of them injured, Wynd goes looking for help only to find himself on the run from a group of faeries who are weary of outsiders. After Wynd is netted and captured, he is taken to their city where he learns more of the complicated history of the world including how the conflict between the faeries and vampires began.
At the same time, an attack in the woods prompts a message to the king while Wynd’s companions find themselves deep in the woods and not alone. The threat of the vampires continue to linger and their leader has a plan for both their quarry and the faeries who protect them.
The Story: James Tynion IV continues to take this story in new and interesting directions. Although the pace was a little disjointed at times, the story does a great job of building its world and mythology. Wynd’s education on the world he doesn’t know also serves as the reader’s look at the history and backstory of the conflicts found within the story. The dialogue is great and the evolution of the characters, their personalities and interpersonal conflicts is welcome and entertaining.
The Art: Dialynas delivers some impressive visuals throughout the issue. There are great character moments to be found and the scope of the world continues to breathtaking in its detail.
