The Rundown: A god has been murdered in Diana’s home and the hunt for the killer will affect Wonder Woman in ways she never prepared for.
Aphrodite is dead and when Steve and Atlantiades discover the goddess’ lifeless body it takes everything Steve has to pull the demigod back from her grief and anger. When Diana returns, she takes the body to Themyscira where she can be mourned properly. When she returns, the hunt for the killer begins.
Both Steve and Diana know who killed Aphrodite, but what they don’t know is how. When Diana picks up Cheetah’s trail, she goes after her with the determination to seek justice. Unfortunately, when they meet face to face and begin to fight, Wonder Woman will realize that something is wrong with her. Something that is taking away her will to fight. Something that could mean death to the hero.
The Story: G Willow Wilson adds some deep layers to what could have just been a simple revenge storyline and it works for the character. I love how this story unfolds and the directions the writer takes it in both dialogue and narrative. Wilson knows how to capture the determination and emotion of Diana and the narration shows the audience that there is more to the character beneath the surface. The battle between Diana and Cheetah was handled beautifully and the revelation that both Atlantiades and Diana make adds more drama to the end of the issue and makes me want to see what happens next.
The Art: Jesus Merino delivers some beautiful art throughout this issue. Not only does Diana look powerful and regal, but Cheetah looks menacing and gorgeously detailed.
