The Rundown: Diana and Maxwell Lord continue their hunt for Max’s rogue tech and their hunt puts them in the path of a familiar face.
After their last mission, Diana heads to the Hall of Justice to consult with Superman about her next mission. With Maxwell Lord in tow, she is reluctant to accept Clark’s help beyond the mission briefing for obvious reasons and the pair then heads to one of the most dangerous countries on the planet to get more information.
After getting the information they need, they discover that there has been a bounty put on Maxwell’s head and the revelation will lead them to Vlatava and the crumbling rule of Count Vertigo. As they approach, Vertigo unleashes a new power that will change the dynamic between the hero and her new partner.
The Story: Mariko Tamaki continues the road trip style storytelling that has been effective in showcasing the tense relationship between Diana and her new partner Maxwell Lord. Tamaki does a great job of keeping and holding the tension throughout especially when it comes to whatever Lord is planning behind Diana’s back. The story is well done and I like the banter between the characters. I also enjoyed the cliffhanger ending and what it means for the duo going forward.
The Art: Steve Pugh does an excellent job with the imagery in this issue. The action looks really good and the details throughout the panels make them engaging.
