The Rundown: Diana returns to the Amazons and learns that Grail has seized the throne, taken her mother hostage and has a loyal number of Amazons following her, including Nubia.
With Diana reunited with her people, it is up to the princess to get them ready to fight. In order to stop Grail and her forces, she will have to train Maggie to wield the sword she is now bound to and prepare the other Amazons to fight their own in a battle to free their queen.
Diana and the others will have to look past the fact that they are fighting their sisters if there is any chance of saving Hippolyta and a betrayal will turn the tide of the battle. At the same time, Lex makes an offer to Cheetah that includes a powerful gift.
The Story: Wilson tackles all of the themes that make Wonder Woman and her world so appealing. Not only are there great action scenes and tension throughout the issue, but the story is balanced by Diana’s inner monologue, her doubts, fears and hope for victory. This is a fun, inspirational story that allows the reader to see Diana as an effective, caring leader as well as a smart, capable tactician. Wilson resolves some of the bigger issues affecting the character and sets up more interesting stories to come. The pace and dialogue in the issue were great. I really got a sense of urgency in Diana’s actions as well as the rising tension of the chase to the caves.
The Art: Xermanico, Cifuentes and Jesus Merino deliver some amazingly detailed and beautiful art throughout this issue. There are some exciting action scenes as well as some really tender moments that look beautiful.
