The Rundown: After rejecting Hera, Yara must find a way to escape Olympus.
For defying Hera and her plans, Yara has been sent to Tartarus. As she finds herself at the mercy of the creatures of the pit, she gets some unexpected help. Unfortunately, that help lands her in a cell and confronted by Eros who wants to know why she gave up her place on Olympus. After being rescued from the pit, Yara returns to the gates of Olympus in an attempt to escape. Hera sends her forces after her in an attempt to hide her existence from Zeus.
Back on Earth, Cassie meets with Donna and is introduced to another tribe of Amazons. As they gather on the other side of the gates, they prepare to go to war to stop the gods from enacting their plan. As Yara continues to try to open the gates, she is confronted by Hera’s forces who have orders to kill her.
The Story: Jones delivers a great story in this issue and its bigger ramifications have me excited about what comes next. Yara’s journey takes some intriguing turns and the story does a great job of fleshing her out as a character. There is great humor to be found in the story amidst the heavy themes and I am intrigued by the dynamic between Yara and Eros. A fun, adventurous story that has a great buildup of tension throughout.
The Art: Del Duca delivers some great visuals in this issue. I love the style of this series a lot and the art does a great job of being both visually compelling and gorgeously detailed.
