The Rundown: Yara trains to be a champion and is confronted by the truth of her past.
Yara finds herself on Olypus training among the gods to become a hero. Her training is arduous and the lessons in controlling her temper are even harder. As Hera’s new champion, she is given gifts from the gods as well as training in combat and the art of war. Unfortunately, her inability to control her powers continues to affect her anger and thus, her training.
As she contemplates her failures, she finds herself making a new and unexpected friend. With a renewed sense of purpose, Yara dives back into her training. In the aftermath, she decides to make a trip back to Earth to see someone before she takes her place as Hera’s champion. After learning the truth of her past, Yara Flor. A truth that will lead her to make a decision about who or what she will become.
The Story: Jones crafts an engaging and compelling story that does a great job of world building for the character of Yara. The story is rich in character and entertaining in its scope. Yara’s journey is entertaining as well and the intrigue in the story keeps me interested in her story and how it will impact the rest of the world. The Amazon conflict is also intriguing and I cannot wait to see how it plays out.
The Art: Jones and Melo deliver some beautiful visuals throughout the issue. Not only do the characters look amazing, but the world being brought to life on the page is visually compelling.
