Wolverine: The Long Night
Marvel Entertainment
Season 1 Episode 4
“Hunters”
Agent Marshall is interviewing a witness about a story he doesn’t think anyone will believe. He was tracking a herd of elk three weeks ago when he sees a pack of wolves move in. As they take down a straggler, the hunter fixes his rifle on a shape hunting with the wolves and sees that the shape that took down the elk and eating with the wolves themselves was Logan.
After talking to him about the incident, the hunter tells the agent that the Langrock family is sponsoring a hunt for the bear that killed the two girls from town and the first prize is $10,000 dollars. Marshall also discovers that the statistics of attacks is dramatically lower than the reality.
Agent Pierce decides to confront Mallory, the waitress at the local bar that Logan frequents. She reluctantly tells the agent about Logan’s habits in the bar and an incident involving Logan and the victims of the boat attack. We get our first real indicator of Richard Armitage’s performance as Logan/Wolverine. He has the voice and presence down for the character and he’s just aloof enough in his delivery that he gives the character a gritty reality.
As Pierce listens to the details about the fight and Mallory’s defense of Logan, Marshall decides to take Deputy Bobby with him to interview the head of the Langrock family. It’s a pretty weird exchange that introduces the wealthy benefactor of the town and the personalities of his two sons. It also gives Marshall an opportunity to plant a bug in the Langrock’s home. What he hears later and a phone call from the sheriff later that night, could change the scope of their investigation.
I continue to find myself immersed in this story and its characters. Giving more insight into Logan as a character and the town’s reactions to him adds depth to the story. The performances are great and I really love how there are multiple suspects with each episode. There is a feeling that the next episode is going to delve more into Logan’s movements throughout the town in the time he’s been there and that is interesting to me as a listener. I’m invested now.
