The Rundown: A priest finds himself defying his order to fight supernatural threats.
It’s the height of The Anarchy in England and a lone priest does what he can to stop supernatural threats across the land starting with a demonic entity plaguing the home of a local lord. After taking down the demon, William finds himself at odds with the brother who leads his order when William is tasked with helping someone in Buckinghamshire.
After leaving in the dead of night, William is confronted by a band of highwaymen and makes a deal with a young woman among them. A deal that will bring the pair to William’s next location and a confrontation with a restless spirit. A confrontation that will draw more ire from his superior who decides to bring William back by force.
The Story: A solid and entertaining debut issue. The story is interesting and has some great characters throughout with moments of humor balancing the supernatural terror. William is an interesting character and I like seeing how he moves throughout this world. The conflicts are just beginning for him and I am interested in seeing how the character deals with the supernatural as well as personal threats he will have to face.
The Art: Oeming delivers some great art in the issue as well. I really enjoyed having the characters as animals and how it brings a new emotional element to the story.
