Actor Will Smith is diving back into the world of science fiction for his next project and will reteam with writer Akiva Goldsman to bring it to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith and Akiva Goldsman will reteam for the big screen adaptation of the Marcus Sakey science fiction novel Brilliance. The book tells the story of a futuristic society where, since the 1980’s, around 1% of the world’s population are born with superpowers. Those people, called ‘Brilliants’ or “abnorms” are tracked by the government as a means of controlling their abilities.
Smith will play an “abnorm” named Nick Cooper. An agent with the Department of Analysis and Response, Cooper uses his ability to see incidents before they happen and act preemptively to track down and eliminate criminal “abnorms”. When he’s tasked with tracking down one of the most dangerous Brilliants alive, everything he believes will be called into question.
Brilliance will be the fourth film Smith and writer Akiva Goldsman have collaborated on after I, Robot, I Am Legend and Hancock. Will Smith’s next film will be the sci-fi thriller Gemini Man directed by Ang Lee.
