The Rundown: A down on his luck priest finds a new assignment with an unusual exorcist.

Father Barrera is a man losing his faith after an incident that leaves him emotionally broken. When he is visited by Cardinal Glanton who tells him that if he is looking for purpose, he has one for him with Father Stygian.

At the same time, Father Stygian pays a visit to a fellow priest who tries to convince him that the girl he was sent to perform an exorcism on has been cured. A story that convinces Stygian that the priest himself has been possessed. After a dangerous encounter with the demon inside the priest, an ailing Stygian is introduced to his new protégé, but their relationship will get off to a rocky start.

The Story: Moreno crafts an engaging and interesting story in this first issue. The issue does a great job of introducing the characters, conflict and tone of the story while crafting some clever moments for Stygian that I enjoyed. I liked the rising tension between Stygian and Barrera as well as the internal conflict Barrera is dealing with. It will be interesting to see how these two characters interact with each other as the story progresses.

The Art: Rebelka delivers some beautiful art throughout the issue. I think the visual style is perfect for this dark style of story and I cannot wait to see how dark and disturbing the imagery will become.
