The Rundown: Carter Burke escapes being a victim of aliens only to find life a lot harder when he returns.
Carter Burke has been found out by Ripley and the rest of the surviving Marines on LV-426. As they argue over what to do with him, an attack by the aliens gives Burke time to escape, but his ultimate fate is unknown to the crew.
What they don’t know is that Burke is a survivor and will find a way to stowaway unseen on the Sulaco as Ripley fights for her life. Burke will return to society, but it will not be with the welcome he was expecting given his colossal failure. A failure that will give him a tough life and a new purpose.
The Story: The writers create an interesting story for Burke in this first issue. It’s an interesting look at the dark side of corporate loyalty and a character who has always been morally questionable. It would be easy to create a circumstance in which the alternate history of this character was darker, but this issue shows the banality of his loyalty to the company and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
The Art: Vilanova delivers fantastic action throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this issue and how it transitions from the huge action of Burke’s escape to the dark reality of this life.
