The Rundown: A salvage fleet working with some interesting cargo plans to change their fortunes.
In deep space, the crew of the Vihaan II travels to their next salvage location. After choosing their location and avoiding other teams and their claims, they get to work salvaging the tissue from a giant, dead celestial being that they believe to be gods.
The job has its complications and rewards as the crew discovers quickly when a rival salvage team runs afoul of the government and pays the price. Captain Malik and his crew keep their heads down and do their job with the knowledge that they are about to do something both unexpected and immensely dangerous.
The Story: The first thing that intrigued me was how brilliantly different the concept is. I love exploring a new world with new characters and Al Ewing has created something really interesting in this first issue. The characters and team dynamic are engaging. The plot is solid and everything about the story and its premise makes me want to know and explore more. Ewing has also set up a great conflict for the main character and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Simone Di Meo has some beautiful character designs in this issue. Not only do they look great, but the ships, backgrounds and panels are all dynamic and interesting.
