In an interesting and surprising move, Warner Brothers has announced the star of their next DC Comics film.
With it being reported that Shazam! was the next film Warner Brothers was going to focus on, it was announced that actor Zachary Levi would be taking on the role of the hero. No word yet on who will be playing the hero’s alter-ego Billy Batson, but Levi is a different choice than most would have suspected. Previous names mentioned for the role included John Cena and Zane Holtz among others.
Shazam! is the superhero alter-ego of Billy Batson who looks like a grown man, has the mind of a young boy and the powers of the Gods.
Zachary Levi is known primarily for his comedic roles on television including the lead in the NBC series Chuck from 2007-2012. He is also the voice of Flynn Rider/ Eugene in both the movie Tangled and the animated series. Levi is also no stranger to the world of superheroes having had a role on Heroes: Reborn as well as playing Fandral, one of the Warriors Three, in both Thor: The Dark World and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
Shazam! will be written by Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After) an d directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation). Production is set to begin February 2018.
