It’s been 40 years since the plucky group of young adventures in Astoria traversed booby traps, pirate ships and more to save their town and it looks like Warner Brothers is ready to return to that world with a new adventure.

According to a new article in The Wrap, Warner Brothers has tapped a writer to pen a sequel to the 1985 film. According to the article, screenwriter Potsy Ponciroli has been chosen to write the Goonies sequel for the studio. Ponciroli is known for writing films like Super Zeroes and Old Henry as well as writing episodes of the series Still The King and producing Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
No director has been attached to the film, but Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario will produce the film for Amblin Entertainment with original Goonies writer Chris Columbus and executive produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, the wife of Goonies original director Richard Donner.

There’s no details on plot or casting, but several members of the original cast have talked about the film before its upcoming 40th anniversary this year and Goonies stars Sean Astin and Ke Huy Quan are reteaming on screen for Quan’s upcoming action comedy Love Hurts.
