In an exclusive to Deadline, Warner Brothers has announced who will be joining Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the Birds of Prey movie based on the DC Comics series.
According to the article, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollet-Bell will be joining the cast.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is known for her roles in films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and the series Fargo. She will be taking on the role of Huntress. In the comics, Huntress aka Helena Bertinelli is the daughter of a Gotham mob boss. After her entire family is killed, Huntress decides to take on the mob and all criminals with her own brand of lethal justice. Her methods and philosophy have put her at odds with Batman in the past, but she does have a shaky alliance with the Bat-Family.
Jurnee Smollet-Bell is known for roles in films like The Great Debaters and One Last Thing as well as roles on series like Friday Night Lights, True Blood and the upcoming Lovecraft Country. She will be taking on the role of Black Canary. It is unclear which version of the character she will play, but Black Canary aka Dinah Lance is an expert martial artist and hero who uses her ultrasonic scream to fight crime.
The role of Detective Renee Montoya has not been cast yet.
Birds of Prey is scheduled for release in theaters February 7, 2020.
