War of the Realms Uncanny X-Men #1
Marvel Comics
Written by Matthew Rosenberg
Art by Pere Perez
Colors by Rachelle Rosenberg
Letters by Travis Lanham
The remaining X-Men are continuing their mission to stop any threats to mutantkind and that mission takes them to some remote woods where they encounter a couple of villains that it takes them longer than expected to stop. The fight gets even longer when Dani and Magik flee the area. In the aftermath of the fight, the recovering X-Men are dealing with their injuries when Magik reappears and tells them that Dani is in trouble.
The team is teleported to the West Village in the aftermath of the invasion and find themselves facing Frost Giants, Dark Elves and more as the forces of Malekith lay claim to the city. When they finally find Dani, they discover that all their efforts might be in vain and that it might be too late for Midgard.
I wanted to enjoy this issue more than I did, but I never really felt like this side of the story was one worth telling in the context of the bigger story. This first issue never really found its footing and just seemed like an excuse to get the X-Men into the fight after everyone was gone. Rosenberg is great with these characters and setting it in the aftermath of the last issue is a good move, but the rest of the story just doesn’t come together to give the reader a sense that it is a necessary part of the War of the Realms.
Pere Perez provides some great art throughout the issue especially in the action scenes.
