The Rundown: Thor has strapped himself to the blazing world tree on the surface of the sun and must make a series of sacrifices in order to get the answers he seeks.
Thor discovers what he needs to do in order to end the War of the Realms. With his parents being held by Malekith and the only one who can penetrate the shield surrounding them being Thor, the Thunder God decides that one Thor is not enough.
Traveling through space and time, a gathering of Thor’s from the future and the past will form a plan to free their parents. Joining them will be a revitalized Jane Foster Thor wielding the remnants of the War Thor’s hammer. As the forces of Midgard turn the tide of the war in favor of the heroes, Malekith turns his attention to the storm of Thors raining down on him. With the Dark Elf distracted, Laufey decides to begin his plan to freeze the entire planet. Unfortunately, he’s going to run into some heavy resistance both internally and externally from the forces of Earth, a determined Daredevil and an unexpected ally.
The Story: Jason Aaron crafts the perfect third act in an issue that reminds readers of the fury and importance of Thor in the Marvel universe. This was a sublimely clever and fun issue that does an excellent job of wrapping up the giant elements of the plot and how they relate to Thor and Malekith. The final reveals are well worth reading because they are set up in a way that surprises and delights the reader. This is a great final issue for this story arc and I can’t wait to see what Aaron and company have planned for the character next.
The Art: Russell Dauterman delivers big time with the art in this issue. Every page is filled with beautiful characters and details. The action is amazing and the final battle is truly epic in scale.
