With recent news that stars are circling the co-star roles in the upcoming live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, the speculation on who would be playing the lead Ariel began in earnest.
Now we know who Disney has chosen to be “part of your world”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios has chosen actress/singer Halle Bailey to take on the role of mermaid princess Ariel in the upcoming film directed by Rob Marshall. Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are all in talks to take roles in the upcoming film.
Marshall said of the decision in a statement; “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,”
Bailey is half of the R&B duo Chloe X Halle along with her sister. She has had co-starring roles in series like Grown-ish, but The Little Mermaid is expected to be her breakout role.
