The Rundown: Helen finds her life complicated by the emergence of a dangerous entity discovered beneath the desert.

Helen is the daughter of an Egyptian national and a wealthy British man who is excavating an archaeological site in Thebes. As she gets older, she tries to make friends with the locals whose parents work for her father. When an outing takes a turn, she finds herself running through the desert as one of her father’s employees uncovers and begins to translate a scroll found on the dig.

When a long dead mummy emerges, Helen passes out and when she return home, she discovers that she is no longer alone in her thoughts. As the mummy begins to make its way towards the city of Thebes, Helen finds herself dealing with a past life that is connected to what is coming.

The Story: Hicks crafts an engaging and entertaining first issue. There isn’t a lot of action or thrills, but the first issue does a great job of building atmosphere and character in Helen and what she is going through. The story takes some interesting turns as it builds on Helen and her connection to Thebes and I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

The Art: Hicks delivers some beautifully detailed and visually immersive art throughout the issue. I really enjoy the character designs and the tone of the imagery.
