The Rundown: As the expedition is betrayed again, they will have to find a way to escape, but is anywhere is America safe?
Jain has decided to hack the system when she cannot convince the team to support Unity as the template for the country going forward. Trapping the team and sending doubles in their place, she hopes to fool Aurora. Knowing what will happen to them if Jain succeeds, Charlotte comes up with a plan to free them, but she will need Chang’s connection to Unity to do it.
At the same time, the Destiny Man continues his assault on the city and its technology. An assault that Jain might not be strong enough to prevent. Using the power behind the city as a means of bringing it down, Charlotte and the others break free, but their exodus might just be the start of their problems.
The Story: Snyder and Soule end this issue with a bang as the story gets more intense and interesting while the mysteries continue to grow. What makes the series and this issue work on so many levels is the intelligence of the characters. These are people who are resourceful as well as flawed and their complicated layers are engaging. I like seeing them work both for and against each other because it showcases the complicated nature of humanity. A great issue that teases more exciting things to come.
The Art: Camuncoli and Marcello Grassi bring some beautiful, stylized visuals to this issue. Not only is there pulse pounding action, but there are some truly disturbing visuals throughout that are visually jarring. Loved every page and panel.
