In their quest to find a way back home, the New Mutants are going to encounter a new enemy; each other.
Legion has sent X-Man and the New Mutants to the Age of Apocalypse in hopes of getting rid of the mutant before he changes reality.
Armor and Glob find themselves traveling with Nate in hopes of finding a device that can get them home after they fight a group of Infinites bent on destroying the impure. Even being caught in a dystopian future hellscape can’t keep Glob from admiring the fact that his powers have been enhanced.
Rockslide and Pixie are on the trail of their former teammates and they have made some new allies in the process. When both sides of the fractured team collide in a Sinister facility in Chicago, the resulting fight forces Hisako to consider an option that might change her forever.
After building up Nate as this huge threat for the first few issues, it’s weird to see him cower the way he does in this issue. There’s no clear explanation as to why the mutants go from being a team to being at each other’s throats between this issue and the last and that lack of clarity made it difficult to really connect to the issue. The split in the team and why they are being hunted seemed like more interesting stories to follow rather than Nate being passive and ineffective while the young mutants shoulder the burden or trying to get them home.
While the art in the issue is stellar, even it can’t help a thin premise with little development or payoff.
