Angel gets all pissy as Jesus “Nate” Christ makes a revelation to the X-Men.
Betsy messing with Warren’s brain bring back Archangel as the metal wings and blue skin re-emerge. In his rage, he goes after fellow Horseman Magneto. Fighting to a stalemate, Erik escapes and leaves an angry, hurt Archangel behind to deal with his friends.
While the X-Men continue to operate with an “ends justify the means” type of strategy, I have to actually agree with Angel and his anger on this one. If the only way they can get Angel on their side is by accesing the worst part of himself than what kind of allies are they actually creating for the fight against X-Man?
When the X-Men find Nate’s base and attempt to convince him to change his path, X-Man reveals that he has been watching and interacting with them the whole time without their knowledge and he’s determined that this world is going the same way as his, just slower. It’s not the most far-fetched observation, but his plan to change it goes sideways when the New Mutants decide to bring Legion along to try to stop Nate.
It doesn’t end well.
Nate’s revelation aside, X-Man’s powers still don’t seem clearly defined in this series. Besides that, the series itself continues to be an interesting and fun read with everything leading to the Age of X-Man. Rosenberg, Thompson and Brisson have a pretty tight story going on in this series and it continues to be interesting to see Nate’s evolution of ideas as the story progresses.
I wasn’t overly impressed with how Angel was handled or how ambiguous his presence became almost immediately, but it does add an intriguing new dynamic to the story and the Warren/Betsy relationship.
The art is gorgeous and there are some breathtaking background images that enhance the foreground action and tone of the panel.
