The Rundown: After finding out that Emma Frost has erased their memories of her and the Hellfire Club, Scott and the remaining X-Men break in to confront her.
Half the team has made it into the mansion and been confronted by Emma and her surprise guests. After confessing what she did and why, she enlists the team to break into an O.N.E. facility to break out a mutant she needs to complete a plan that could free them all.
At the base, Scott discovers that Logan is already there and cutting a path of destruction through the location until he stumbles upon an old friend who’s seen better days. As the X-Men begin their rescue mission, Callahan unleashes the full power of Illyana and Emma Frost changes the path of mutants across the Marvel universe.
The Story: Matthew Rosenberg goes huge with the moments in this issue. He continues to raise the stakes for these characters and put them through the ringer as the story progresses. What makes this story work is that even with all the giant moments throughout it, the story continues to be compelling and engaging. Everything involving Emma Frost, Illyana and even Juggernaut is huge in the scope of both the characters and their place in the Marvel universe and the conclusion of this issue was equal parts unexpected and satisfying.
The Art: Salvador Larroca delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout this issue. There are so many iconic and beautiful scenes throughout this issue and the action is spectacular.
