The Rundown: Peter becomes more confident in his new role as Spider-Man, but his secret becomes a burden to the people around him.
After not being able to contact Harry directly, Peter finds himself alone as he decides to stop a bank robbery. The fight goes better than he imagined and his confidence brings him face to face with Martin Li who is assessing the capabilities of the hero. An assessment he will bring back to Fisk and the other members of their group as Hardy introduces the person who will take over for him, his daughter.
After an intense fight, Spider-Man returns home and is confronted by Mary Jane who is finally ready to voice her concerns about Peter’s new responsibility. A sentiment shared by another member of his family who has discovered his secret and is compelled to give him some sage advice.
The Story: I continue to love how Hickman is able to take his time with this story and uses that time to expand on the world in interesting ways that reflect who these characters are. The action is great, but the contrast to the aftermath of it and the emotional beats with both Mary Jane and Ben are awesome. It adds a different perspective for Peter. One that he definitely needs to consider given the circumstances he now finds himself in. There is a wonderful maturity to this story and I cannot wait to see what happens next in this world.
The Art: Messina delivers intense and beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I love the visual thrills of the action as well as the quiet character moments that have their own visual intensity to them.
