The Rundown: A young creature named Twig begins a grand journey to protect the world.
It’s his first day at a new and very important job and Twig is already late. With his small companion Splat at his side, Twig races through the forest to make it to Mount Guphin to begin his new job as a Placeling so he can protect his world and the ones beyond.
After entering the magical mountain and speaking to the creatures within, Twig is given an object to take with him to the Pathsayer who will tell him the next part of his journey. As he and Splat make their way cross country, the finally arrive at the Pathsayer’s home only to find a grisly scene and the high probability of danger beyond.
The Story: Young creates a beautiful and interesting fantasy world in this first issue. Twig and Splat are charming, intriguing characters that have great banter with each other. I like the tone of the story a lot and there are some great mysteries being presented in the first issue that add to its charm.
The Art: Strahm delivers some brilliantly composed and beautiful fantasy landscapes in this issue. The world of these characters is unique, distinctive and visually engaging.
