The Rundown: Yara Flora navigates Themyscira and her previous history with the Esquecidas tribe is explored. Cassie searches for a killer.
The story opens with Yara narrating her feelings toward the gods and Themyscira. She then reminisces on her previous adventures and her experiences with the Esquecidas. Later she has a conversation with Hippolyta at a feast. In the present, Cassie investigates a murder and something sinister is released from Doom’s Doorway.
The Story: I really appreciate how Yara’s journey up to the present is presented. It gives reader’s new to her story the opportunity to learn about who she is in a straightforward and interesting manner. As well as emphasizing her importance as a liaison between the two tribes. I was particularly struck by the world building this chapter took the time to carve out and I hope that future installments of Trial of the Amazons will include the history of the Bana-Mighdall in a comprehensive manner.
The Art: This good-looking issue is filled with detailed drawings and a colorwork that varies based on location on mood. This art in this chapter gives off a newsprint feel that feels very traditional despite the modern styling which in my opinion completely captures the tone of the story.
