The Rundown: A young man finds himself in the middle of a dangerous conflict.
Spike is thinking about his future, but his current relationship with his father makes that difficult. When he and his friend Carly take a drive out to watch the stars, they find themselves dropped into an alien ship as its AI begins to repair its occupants.
When Starscream is repaired, he turns on the Autobot who helped him. As he attempts to kill the rest, Optimus Prime is resurrected and must fight to escape with both his fellow Autobots and his new human friends.
The Story: Daniel Warren Johnson takes a familiar story for fans of the characters and makes a dark and engaging new beginning for them. The human element has always been one of the defining elements of the Transformers story and having Spike in the issue is a great way to have a stand in for the reader as he witnesses the huge action and spectacle. The first issue takes some interesting twists and turns with the narrative and I look forward to seeing where the story goes next.
The Art: Daniel Warren Johnson’s style works perfectly for the Transformers. The visuals are beautifully detailed and thrilling.
