Call Me By Your Name breakout star Timothee Chalamet is in final talks to take on the lead role in Denis Villeneuve’s (Blade Runner 2049) adaptation of Frank Herbert’s DUNE.
Legendary has the screen rights to the property and they are intending to make Herbert’s work a franchise and securing Villeneuve to direct was a coup for the studio.
Chalamet is in talks to play the lead in DUNE Paul Atreides. He is the central figure of the series set in the far future in a galaxy beyond Earth where competing feudal families vie for control of a drug commonly known as “spice”. Spice is not only responsible for giving users heightened consciousness and extended life, but it is also responsible for giving the galaxy access to interstellar travel. The spice is only found on one planet, Arrakis aka DUNE and the war for control of it is what fuels the series.
Chalamet’s next film is the addiction drama Beautiful Boy alongside Steve Carell. The film is based on the bestselling memoirs by father-son writers David and Nic Sheff.
