The Rundown: Slithe is rescued by a mysterious stranger as the cause of his hatred towards the Thundercats is revealed.
In the aftermath of a massive explosion, the Thundercats are missing and Slithe contemplates the history of warfare that has made him hate all Thunderians and vow to destroy them on Third Earth. As he attempts to flee the area, he is rescued by another reptilian who quickly helps him escape.
As he thinks back on his past encounters and battles with the Thunderians, Slithe is confronted by the leader of the Monkians. A confrontation that will take a deadly turn and reveal that the reptilian who rescued him is closer to Slithe than he realized.
The Story: Admittedly, I am lukewarm on this story. I’m not sure if I necessarily needed a Slithe backstory and especially one that paints him sympathetically considering everything the character has done up to this point. It doesn’t necessarily endear him to me and if anything, makes me ambivalent to the fate of the Thundercats. The story is told really well and is enjoyable for its suspense, but the reveal was too convenient and its timing felt a little clumsy because it lacked suspense. It was too obvious.
The Art: Mulvey delivers some great art in the issue. The visuals are beautifully detailed and interesting to see, especially the action scenes.
