The Rundown: Two serial killers in the same time work towards a twisted town record.
The final victim of a local serial killer manages to escape from his underground layer and her story is the subject of a podcast by Cece Galloway. Unfortunately, Cece has more stories because there are currently two serial killers operating the area and they have completely different motivations and victims.
Mark Ewing is a very successful local man living a dream life with his wife in their suburban home. He is also a serial killer. The night he goes out to find a new victim, he stumbles on his supposed rival in the act of killing a couple in their home and Mark decides to confront his contemporary with a friendly wager. A wager that will have one of the killers beat the record of most kills in the area.
The Story: I really enjoy the premise of this first issue. It’s an interesting plot and concept with a great dark tone that kept me invested. I was impressed with the characters, the stakes and the dark humor of the story and everything builds to some great reveals towards the end of the issue.
The Art: Piazzalunga crafts some beautiful art in the issue that captures the brutality of murder while also setting the mood and tone of each scene. I especially love the use of shadow and what those shadows represent in the story.
