The Rundown: Thor is confronted by one of his oldest friends and must face the truth of his role in helping Galactus as the Black Winter gets closer.
After his battle with Beta Ray Bill, Thor is confronted by Sif who reminds the All-Father that she knows that he acts out of fear and what he is afraid of. As he strikes back, she sends his hammer to an unlikely place and into the possession of a familiar face in order to by time to remove Bill from the battle. After retrieving his weapon, Thor continues on his journey only to find more betrayal from Galactus as his Herald and the final world he devours will call forth the fury of the Black Winter itself.
The Story: Donny Cates delivers an awesome story with intense drama and great action in this issue. Thor’s drive to be more than his father and the fears that brings out in him are perfectly laid out by Sif and their confrontation is intense and satisfying. I really enjoy where Cates is taking this story and even the small moments have resonance that I want to see explored, particularly the sequence involving Mjolnir. Thor’s quest is filled with great moments and the defiance he continues to show towards Galactus is great. Their dynamic comes to an explosive head in this issue and the confrontation between them is both tragic and entertaining.
The Art: Nic Klein does some fantastic work with the art in this issue. From the excellent character moments to the scope of the action, everything looks awesome from the first panel to the last.
