The Rundown: The kids have their first day at school while two of the X-Men run into trouble in town.
More is learned about the young mutant known as Calico and the events of her troubling past prompt an unexpected intervention from Gambit in order to get her to calm down and accept what she is. In the aftermath, the kids find themselves going to school while the rest of the team splits off to do some shopping and have some frank discussion.
As the kids deal with bullies and learning restraint, Jubilee is captured while Nightcrawler is distracted and Calico finds herself being confronted by danger. Danger that is coming for them all.
The Story: Simone continues to craft stories that are thrilling, thought provoking and thoroughly entertaining as the X-Men make forays out into the world. I really enjoyed the interlude in the beginning of the issue and how it informs the reader about Calico’s personality. The scenes with Rogue and Wolverine are fantastic and I love the closeness of their friendship. I really enjoyed the scenes with Kurt and Jubilee in town and there is a fantastic buildup of tension and suspense with all the characters before things get dark and dangerous. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Garron delivers fantastic art throughout the issue. The visuals are lively and filled with amazing details. The art is truly immersive and brilliantly matches the tone of the story.
