The Rundown: Doom’s desperate attempts to change his past reveal the truth of his existence.
Doom continues to work on an experiment that will bring back the Fantastic Four. An experiment that bring him into conflict with Iron Lad and forces him to deal with his past and the mistakes that brought him to this place.
A past the brings him together with the people he would come to count on as family as the tragedy of their tale unfolds. A tragedy that the Maker will use to create a new man who used to be Reed Richards and give him a new and ominous name.
The Story: Camp crafts a dark tale in this issue. A tale that shows the growing cracks within the Ultimates as well as ramping up the tension of the still ticking clock that looms over all of them. I really liked the contrasting tones of the story as it switches between the tension of the present and the growing tension of the past. The story has some truly dark and interesting moments that come together to create an intriguing tale with a compelling ending.
The Art: Noto delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I really enjoyed the brighter visual moments of Doom’s past and the darker tone of his present.
