The Rundown: The truth of Wanda’s death is finally revealed and the Scarlet Witch decides to leave a gift to the mutants of Krakoa.
The Avengers and the mutants gather on Krakoa as Wanda tells them that she knows who tried to kill her. As she tries to determine whether it’s safe enough to expose the killer to the crowd, her friends assure her that it is. That’s when she finally points the finger at her would be assassin. The Quiet Council gathers to confront the accused who is a familiar face to everyone, especially Magneto. Wanda pleads with the Council to show mercy to the accused only to have her friends and family explain to her the severity of the crime.
Once the evidence is presented and the sentence is carried out, the Avengers decide to leave the island. In the aftermath, Magneto must deal with his hand in the events and Wanda enlists Lorna to help her with something personal. Something that will require the help of Legion and Proteus. As Wanda begins a powerful spell, the truth of what happened to her on the night she died is revealed. A truth that will become a gift to the mutants of Krakoa and a small penance for what she did to mutantkind.
The Story: Williams brings this story to a satisfying and surprising conclusion. There is a great emotional undertone to this story and putting everything into context, it makes perfect sense for these characters and their complex relationships. Wanda redeeming herself with mutantkind is a great plot point and I love the direction this can take future X-Men stories, but I am also curious about what happens if certain secrets come to light.
The Art: Werneck delivers some great art throughout the issue. There are some beautiful visual moments to be found and I love the detailed in every panel.
